Students will then begin their group work on the last part of our Holocaust unit, in which they will read a section of one of four texts: We are Witnesses: Five Diaries of Teenagers who Died in the Holocaust by Jacob Boas, Survivors: True Stories of Children in the Holocaust by Allan Zullo and Mara Bovsun, Night by Elie Wiesel, The Boy Who Dared by Susan Campbell Bartoletti. Students will be assigned to groups of no more than 4 students, and will be introduced to the reading assignment that will be required to turn in with the final assignment. Students will then check out books and begin their first group work day.
Below is a suggested list of how to prioritize their first work day:
- get into Lit Circle groups
- reevaluate the *tentative* reading schedule (be flexible & ready for change if necessary!)
- assign individual group reading roles
- make a copy of the Holocaust Literature Group Work Google Doc and share with all group members with editing rights!
- copy the shared Google Doc link and turn it into the Literature Circles Google Form
- fill in the names of each group member on your copy of the Google Doc
- help Passage Recorder and Reporter create Works Cited MLA citation and paste the citation into the Google Doc (pg. 4)
- BEGIN WORKING or CONTINUE READING!
